Packed flour weighs significantly more. Sift and scoop with a spoon without packing.
Place the measuring cup on a flat surface and look at the mark horizontally.
Scales give accuracy of +/-1 g, while measuring spoons give +/-15-20%. For baking, this is critical.
Melted butter and softened butter in recipes are different things. 100 g of butter = 7 tablespoons.
A fluid ounce is a volume measure (30 ml), a dry ounce is a weight measure (28.35 g).
A pinch is approximately 1/8 teaspoon. "On the tip of a knife" is approximately 1/16 teaspoon.
Markings wear off over time. Periodically calibrate measuring cups using scales.
