Set a tempo at which you can play without a single mistake. Even if it's 40 BPM — that's perfectly fine.
Add only 5–10 BPM after confident performance at the current tempo.
15 minutes of daily metronome practice is more effective than 2 hours once a week.
Practice not only 4/4, but also 3/4, 6/8, 5/4 to develop rhythmic flexibility.
Shifting the accent develops your internal sense of pulse.
Mute every other beat — this forces you to maintain the tempo on your own.
Compare your playing with the metronome to find problem areas.
Playing slowly and evenly is harder than playing fast. Pay attention to Largo and Adagio.
