Keyword density is the percentage ratio of keyword occurrences to the total number of words in the text. Formula: (number of occurrences / total word count) x 100%.
| Type | Range | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Primary keyword | 1-3% | Natural occurrence |
| Secondary keywords | 0.5-1.5% | LSI keywords |
| Spam threshold | > 3.5% | Risk of keyword stuffing |

Check if the primary keyword exceeds the 3% threshold
Search engines detect artificial keyword stuffing and may lower the site in rankings or impose penalties.
Google uses NLP (natural language processing) and understands context. Writing natural, useful text with semantically related words is more important than counting occurrences.
