5 tips for creating a favicon

1. Simplicity is the key to success

The favicon is displayed at 16x16 pixels. Complex details will be indistinguishable. Use a minimum of elements.

2. Use brand colors

The favicon should be associated with your brand. Use the main color of the logo or a recognizable element of it.

3. Test on dark and light backgrounds

Browsers can use a dark theme. Make sure the favicon is readable on both backgrounds.

4. Don't make the full logo smaller

If the logo contains text, use only the symbol or the first letter. Text at 16 pixels is unreadable.

5. Create versions for different platforms

Apple, Android and Windows use icons of different sizes. Prepare a complete set.
