Color blending is the process of creating new shades by combining two or more colors. In the digital world, this is done mathematically by calculating intermediate values between colors.
Used on screens. Red + green = yellow. All colors together produce white.
Used in printing. Yellow + cyan = green. All colors together produce black.
Choose two source colors
Specify the number of intermediate steps
Get a series of smoothly transitioning shades
| Task | Steps | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Button gradient | 3-5 | Smooth transition |
| Design system palette | 8-10 | Shade scale |
| Heat map | 5-7 | Data visualization |
Blending in RGB gives predictable results for screens. Blending in HSL preserves the saturation of intermediate colors.
